First edition. In this latin dissertation Basedow gives the philosophical foundation for his educational system together with the rules relating to the establishment of his institution, which he called ""Philanthropin"" and was established in 1774. He was one of the most influential German educational reformers, and his system of primary education intended to develop the intelligence of the pupils and to bring them, so far as possible, into contact with realities, not with mere words. From 1753-61 Basedow worked in Denmark as professor to the Academy in Sorø.
