Un des 800 sur volumineux anglais.Les Éditions du Sablier ont été créées en 1919 à Genève par l'écrivain français René Arcos (1880-1959) et le graveur belge Frans Masereel (1889-1972). Souvent illustrés de bois de Masereel, ces ouvrages ont pour auteurs d'anciens membres de l'Abbaye de Créteil (communauté de jeunes auteurs et artistes autour de Georges Duhamel et Charles Vildrac qui de 1906 à 1908 publièrent leurs propres oeuvres) et des écrivains défenseurs de la paix comme Romain Rolland. C'est d'ailleurs sous la direction de Romain Rolland qu'à partir de 1923, ces auteurs se consacreront à la fondation de la revue Europe.--------First edition of this album, without text, of 83 pictures drawn and engraved by the Belgian engraver Frans Masereel (1889-1972).Famous for his influential and sharp black and white graphics, Masereel illustrates in this album the sufferings, the fights but also the dreams of the inter-war period.Edition at 878 copies. One of 800 on English paper.The "Editions du Sablier" were founded in 1919 in Geneva by the French writer René Arcos (1880-1959) andMasereel. Often illustrated with Masereel's woodcuts, these books were written by former members of the Abbaye de Créteil (a community of young authors and artists around Georges Duhamel and Charles Vildrac who published their own works from 1906 to 1908) and writers who were advocates of peace such as Romain Rolland. It is moreover under the direction of Romain Rolland that from 1923, these authors will devote themselves to the foundation of the literary review Europe. ‎
