Grand in-8, demi-maroquin rouge avec coins, dos à nerfs orné, tranches dorées (Lebrun).Édition originale de ce plaisant ouvrage, composé par le spécialiste de l'histoire et de la littérature anglaise. Philarète Chasles (1798-1873) fut conservateur à la bibliothèque Mazarine de 1837 à sa mort. Elle est joliment illustrée, en premier tirage, d'un frontispice et 17 planches gravées sur acier d’après Van Dyck, Rubens et Cattermole, en-têtes, culs-delampe et de 7 planches hors texte gravées sur bois.Très bel exemplaire, provenant de la bibliothèque de l'académicien Jules Janin (avec son ex-libris). Il fut relié à l’époque par Lebrun, l'un des meilleurs ouvriers de Simier. Installé à son compte de 1830 à 1857, Lebrun était reconnu comme l'un des maîtres du pastiche et compta parmi ses clients fidèles non seulement Jules Janin, mais aussi le baron Taylor, Armand Bertin...--------Revolution of England, Charles I, his court, his people, and his parliament, 1630 to 1660. Large in-8, red half-morocco with corners, spine decorated, gilt edges (Lebrun).First edition of this pleasant work, written by the specialist of English history and literature : Philarète Chasles (1798-1873) was curator at the Mazarine library from 1837 to his death. It is nicely illustrated, with a frontispiece and 17 steel-engraved plates, after Van Dyck, Rubens and Cattermole, headers, footers and 7 wood-engraved plates out of the text, in first issue. A very nice copy, from the collection of the academician Jules Janin (with his ex-libris). It was bound at the time by Lebrun, one of the best workers of Simier. Lebrun, who worked on his own from 1830 to 1857, was recognized as one of the masters of pastiche and counted among his faithful customers not only Jules Janin, but also Baron Taylor, Armand Bertin… ‎
