‎BRISSONIUS Barnabas - Barnabé BRISSON - Jean Henri LEDERLIN ( editor) :‎

Reference : 29384

‎De regio Persarum principatu libri tres. Post Cl. Silburgii editionem, praeter complures sublatos errores, Testimoniorum Graecorum versione latina auctiores. Additis sparsim observationibus.. Cura et opera Joh. Henrici Lederlini.‎

‎" Argentoratori (Strasbourg), Vidua Joh. Frid. Spoor, 1710, in-8°, (52) nn pp + 800 pp + (202) pp, 5 exceedingly well-made indexes, contemporary half vellum, manuscript title on spine. With tipped-on to the first paste down ; an engraved armorial ex-libris of the English classical scholar James Henry Monk . Barnabé Brisson, 1531 - 1591, a renowned French magistrate, became an ambassador to the English court and distinguished himself there as well; published the first French codification of legislation (le code Henri III) but was later hanged by the catholics after a mock trial while the future Henri IV sieged Paris... Johann Heinrich Lederlin, 1672 - 1737, taught Greek and Hebrew at Strasbourg university, published several very fine annotated editions. This edition of Barnabé's account of the history and customs of the Persians which was originally published in Paris (1590) is from his hand and is regarded as the best.."‎
