Ogni specie considerata ampiamente descritta e il testo impreziosito da 38 vignette inc. su legno relative a paesaggi inglesi, oltre a numerose figg. nel testo; di ogni specie, assieme alle caratteristiche vengono indicati l'habitat e i sistemi di pesca. "Prima edizione" di questa importante e classica opera sui pesci d'acqua dolce delle Isole britanniche, considerata "one of the most remarkable books of its time". Cfr. (1879), in-folio, XXVI + 92 p. / 2 ll. + p. 93 à p. 204, illustrated with wood-engraved views heading each chapter + altogether 41 coloured lithogr. plates of fishes (1 plate ‘Carp’ cut short, no loss of image), original brown-red cloth with gilt and black tooled decoration and illustration, worn, rubbing and damage to top and bottom of both volumes, gilt edges.‎


‎First edition of this famous work, magnificently illustrated with 41 chromolithogr. plates showing altogether 64 fish species in vivid colours, each species drawn from nature by A.F. Lyndon, nearly all of which are pictured lying on the bank of a river or loch and often against evocative background locations. The plates are beautifully rendered in delicate chromolithography by Benjamin Fawcett, who was responsible for printing the plates in Morris's British Birds and the same author's book on the homes of the British nobility. With some xylogr. text illustrations, and very nice views with fisherman heading the chapters. Original-illustrated bindings worn. Nissen ZBI 2009 and Nissen Fischbücher 78; Dean I/605 (with different collation). ‎
