(mm. 390x285), 12 volumi, legatura edit. in mz. marocchino con ang. (restauri e picc. mancanze), tit. oro al dorso e filetti dorati ai piatti. Questa importante e celebrata opera sull'avifauna dell'Europa centrale e specialmente della Germania, è illustrata da complessive 446 (su 450) tavole f.t. stampate su cartoncino (1 in più rispetto all'Indice) di cui: 391 sono in cromolitografia e raffigurano ca. 1500 uccelli ritratti nel loro ambiente naturale - 48 (su 49), pure in cromolito, sono dedicate alle uova - 7 (su 10) sono in b.n. (per lo più anatomiche). Vi sono raffigurati: tordi, passeracei, cinciallegre, allodole, capinere, fringuelli, storni, uccelli da preda, colombi, gallinacei, ibis, otarde, pivieri, beccacce, anatre, pellicani, procellarie, ecc. Al ns. esemplare "mancano 4 tavole" (17a - 17b con uova - 17c - 17d) e "32 pagine" (da 177 a 208) nel vol. XII, qui presenti in fotocopia (anche a colori). "Terza edizione", rielaborata da Berg, Blasius.. ed edita da Hennicke. Mantiene la suddivisione in 12 voll. (come la seconda ediz.) e riprende il più ampiamente possibile il testo di Naumann, con aggiunte e correzioni, oltre alla descrizione di nuove specie. Tutte le tavole sono state rifatte e alcune sono completamente nuove.Gli artisti che hanno realizzato le magnifiche composizioni - originariamente incise e colorate da Johann Frederich Naumann (figlio di Johann Andreas) ma le cui lastre andarono perdute - sono: Bruno Geisler, A. Goering, J.G. Keulemans, O. Kleinschmidt, O. v. Riesenthal, E. de Maes e altri. Le uova, raggruppate in tavole separate, sono di Alex. Reichert.A quest'opera di Johann Andreas Naumann (1744-1826), collaborò soprattutto il figlio Johann Friedrich (1780-1857), effettivo autore del testo e delle illustrazioni; è considerata la più bella opera tedesca di ornitologia per la perfezione e l'accurata rappresentazione degli uccelli. Cosi' Nissen "IVB", pp. 52-53. Cfr. Nissen "IVB",667 che la descrive con 449 tavv. - Anker,356: "This new revised and enlarged edition of Naumann's classic work of which two editions had previously been published..
