Interessante resoconto di una visita al monastero di La Trappe. Situato a 140 km. a ovest di Parigi, al confine con la foresta di Perche, il monastero protegge la sua storia e custodisce gelosamente il suo ambiente. Prima di un sito archeologico o storico, La Trappe è la seconda casa dell'Ordine dei Cistercensi della Stretta Osservanza, comunemente noto come trappista.L'opera contiene anche importanti informazioni sulla guerra della Vandea, occorsa solo due anni prima della visita effettuata da Fellowes. L'insurrezione della Vandea contribuì alla sconfitta di Napoleone a Waterloo.Una carta (p. 89-90) sciupata; la p. 109 restaur. per piccoli strappi margin., qualche lieve traccia d'uso altrimenti esemplare ben conservato.‎

D. Fellowes (1769-1852), a former officer in the Royal English Navy and painter. It describes not only Le Perche but also "Normandy, Brittany, Poitou, Anjou, Le Bocage, Touraine, Orléanois and the environs of Paris"; it was first published in 1818 and was a great success in bookshops. It is illustrated with 15 plates out of text engraved by Clark after drawings by the author, 12 of which are in colour.Ex-libris Andrew Vincent Corbet, printed and handwritten.Rubbed hinges.
