Questa celebrata opera è così composta:- The History of England, from the invasion of Julius Caesar to the revolution in 1688, by David Hume, in 9 volumi, di pp. complessive 3957, con ritratto dell'A., inciso in rame da Holl; introdotta da una Vita di Hume, scritta da lui stesso. Filosofo e storico scozzese, David Hume (1711-1776) con quest'opera, apparsa nel 1754-61, ebbe larga popolarità e numerose furono le edizioni e traduzioni.- The History of England, from the revolution in 1688, to the death of George II. Designed as a continuation of Hume, by T. Smollett, in 6 volumi, di pp. complessive 2723, con ritratto dell'A. inc. in rame da Holl. Giorgio II Augusto di Hannover, fu Re di Grand Bretagna e Irlanda.. dall'11 giugno 1727 al 25 ottobre 1760, giorno della sua morte a Londra. Tobias Smollett (1721-1771) è stato uno storico, traduttore e medico chirurgo scozzese.Tutti i frontesp. portano ms. la firma di apparten.; alc. voll. con lievi aloni o fiorit. e con uniforme ingiallitura per la qualità della carta, ma complessivam. buon esemplare con barbe (numer. voll. sono intonsi).‎
