Nainsook is a soft, fine, lightweight form of muslin, a cotton fabric. The word 'nainsook' is first documented in 1790, and derives from the Hindi word nainsukh, which literally means 'eye's delight'. Ackermann's Repository of Arts records Messrs. Brisco and Powley, 103 New Bond Street as suppliers of Nainsook (1st series, vol. 2, July-December 1809).‎
