Despite being opposed to the French intervention it did not prevent him becoming the agent of Joseph Bonaparte. Chez L'auteur 13 x 20,5 Paris 1816 In-8, reliure demi-basane fauve de l'époque, plats et tranches marbrés, XXXVII-407 pp. Installé à Cadix à la fin du règne de Charles IV, Frédéric Quilliet était actif sur le marché des oeuvres d'art. Il eut l'occasion de faire l'inventaire de la collection Godoy, ainsi que celles des Palais royaux, celles de l'Escorial et de Madrid. Lors de l'installation de Joseph Bonaparte à Madrid en 1808, il est nommé Inspecteur artistique de la Couronne et conservateur des tableaux au sein de l'administration générale du mobilier de la Couronne. Le dictionnaire tire ses sources de cette période et de répertoires précédents, notamment celui de Cean Bermudes (Source : Museo del Prado).
