Filosofo e storico scozzese, David Hume (1711-1776) con quest'opera, apparsa nel 1754-61, ebbe larga popolarità e numerose furono le edizioni e traduzioni.- The History of England, from the revolution in 1688, to the death of George II. Designed as a continuation of Hume, by T. Smollett, in 6 volumi, di pp. complessive 2723, con ritratto dell'A. inc. in rame da Holl.
