"Présenter dans un album assez copieux et bien illustré les possessions des Plantagenêts est une idée séduisante. Ce n'est pas un projet inutile, car les ouvrages récents, sur ce domaine, en français, sont plutôt rares. L'ouvrage retient l'attention d'abord par son iconographie. Les cartes, les croquis, les photos, les reproductions de dessins, dont bon nombre sont empruntés à Viollet-le-Duc, forment un tout cohérent. L'aspect vieillot de telle ou telle reproduction apporte une note divertissante et en dit plus long qu'un discours historiographique..." (Jacques Paul, Revue d'histoire de l'Église de France, 1982)
