Carte des Indes orientales avec l'Australie représentée de la côte ouest au golfe de Carpentarie. Le relief est illustré. 22 noms sont notés sur la côte nord de l'Australie "And. Silbereisen. sc. 30." Cartouche pictural élaboré avec Neptune, des personnages, des chérubins et des animaux.

Carte gravée de l'Inde, de la Chine, de la péninsule indochinoise, de la Malaisie et des Philippines, issue de la seconde édition de l'Atlas minor de Mercator et Hondius. Texte latin au verso. C'est à Gérard Mercator, l'un des plus célèbres géographes de son temps, que l'on doit la projection employée dans les cartes marines. C'est également lui qui le premier utilisa le mot "atlas", en référence à un roi astronome mythique de Lybie qui aurait construit le premier globe céleste. Cette référence resta cependant confuse et l'iconographie n'a retenu que l'image du titan condamné à porter les cieux sur ses épaules. Après l'énorme succès remporté par ses atlas in-folio, Mercator conçut le projet de publier un atlas d'un format plus petit et plus maniable, donc moins onéreux et accessible à un plus large public. Publié pour la première fois en 1607, l'Atlas minor connut un très grand succès et fut maintes fois traduit. Bel exemplaire.
