P., Librairie Ch. Delagrave, 1906 ; in-12. 2ff.-258pp.-1f. Nombreuses illustrations in-texte en noir et deux dessins en couleurs à pleine page in-texte. Demi-basane rouge, , dos à nerfs, titre doré. Bel exemplaire.
Paul Ginisty (1855-1932) fut dabord écrivain et journaliste, avant d'occuper les fonctions de directeur du Théâtre de l'Odéon à Paris, de 1896 à 1906. En 1914 il devient Inspecteur des Monuments historiques (1914-1924). La Vie d'un théâtre avait paru la première fois en 1898 chez Schleicher Frères à Paris. La présente édition est illustrée par Maurice-Walter-Edmond de Lambert, ancien élève de Gustave Moreau et de Rochefrosse, qui fut aussi le décorateur du théätre de l'Odéon.

1886, Lyon. Le professeur Lafon vient dacheter un domaine sur la colline de Fourvière, mais il a bien du mal à faire pousser ses vignes. Alors quil sintéresse à cette question, on lui parle de « vieux murs romains » qui seraient enfouis dans les environs ....UN AMPHITHEATRE?....il faut attendre cinquante ans (1936) pour que des archéologues se penchent plus sérieusement sur cette question. Et là, cest le drame : la structure nest pas elliptique, mais en demi-cercle, la forme traditionnelle dun théâtre antique. La déception est de courte durée, car il sagit du plus ancien théâtre en France, un haut lieu culturel de lAntiquité ...... Trés belle photo ......
