Fascicule -livre In 4 de87 pp sur grand papier ,publié à Pau par Léon Rabaud en 1879.Avec sa belle eau-forte de sabbat .Nombreuses larmes sur les bord de hauteur et couverture à redéposer sur Japon; par ailleurs grand de marges .Fort rare.(voir aussi ref REG4001M) Paru en 1879, sous la plume d’Hilarion Barthéty, notaire et maire de Garlin en Béarn, voilà deux petites études sur les superstitions et la sorcellerie — alors monnaie courante en Béarn comme au pays Basque —, il y a un peu plus d’un siècle... « La superstition est une science à huis clos ... la superstition est un sanctuaire presque fermé, et c’est à la faveur de l’obscurité qui y règne que les naïfs sont trompés... » Cette définition due à l’abbé Dambielle pour sa Sorcellerie en Gascogne est bien de la même actualité pour Béarn et pays Basque. Les pratiques de sorcellerie et les superstitions populaires, présentées dans leur langue d’origine, donnent enfin la mesure de ce qu’elles étaient ancrées au plus profond des mentalités populaires de l’époque.
