Les stances. Les sept livres.
Lyon, 1923. 5 feuillets. 130 pages. (20x13 cm). Broché. Couverture imprimée en noir et rouge. Petit trou traversant le premier plat, les 5 feuillets et la première page sans manque de texte. Jean Moréas ( 1856-1910) est né à Athénes, sous le nom de Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos , il est le fils d'un juriconsulte grec. En 1875, il vient faire ses études de droit à Paris et s'y fixe définitivement à partir de 1882. Il fréquente divers cercles littéraires et dés le début des années 1880 , publie des recueils de poémes sous le nom de Jean Moréas.En 1886, il signe dans le Figaro , le manifeste du symbolisme.La même année , il fonde la revue Le Symboliste, avec Paul Adam et Gustave Kahn.En 1892, il se détourne du symbolisme pour fonder l'école romane avec Charles Maurras, qui veut revenir à un art classique.Son recueil le plus célèbre , Stances ( 1899-1901), illustre cette nouvelle ambition. Les deux premiers Livres des Stances ont paru en 1899 en édition autographique de luxe au format in-folio à un tirage de 100 exemplaires chez le même éditeur. Les Livres III, IV, V et VI ont eu un tirage limité à 875 exemplaires non justifié. Notre exemplaire est le Nº 7/10 imprimé sur papier de Chine. Rousseurs éparses.
Les Stances
1899 Paris, Edition de la Plume, 1899, grand in 4 br. de 82 pp. non chiffrées (Lhermitte p. 144), portrait de l'auteur en frontispice gravé par Antonio de La Gandara, sans rousseurs, sous portefeuille cartonné, bel exemplaire.
Ed. orig. des 2 premières stances, un des 100 ex. (n°61) sur Chine numérotés et paraphés à la main par l'éditeur, seul tirage. Il est joint une gravure hors-texte d'inspiration symboliste de La Gandara tirée sur Chine (non signée mais comportant une attribution manuscrite au dos). Nous joignons également à cet exemplaire l'édition originale des Stances III, IV, V, et VI, parue chez le même éditeur en 1901, un des 850 ex. sur vélin, broché et non coupé.
