Le pionnier allemand de la photographie Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) a réalisé des photographies de plantes à la fois si belles et si originales que son travail a transcendé ce mode d'expression artistique. Pendant plus de 30 ans, il a pris des milliers de photos, faisant preuve d'un talent guidé par une rigueur formelle, d'un soin et d'une précision qui ont créé des passerelles entre les différents modes de représentation du XIXe et du XXe siècle, et qui ont donné un aspect particulièrement sculptural à cette forme artistique en deux dimensions.
