Malgré la répugnance qu'elle éprouve pour lui, Thérèse accepte. Mais le jour du mariage, elle rencontre le fils d'Anton et l'amour nait entre les deux jeunes gensjusqu'au drame. Version française (1950) de ce livre de 1942 dans une reliure assez fine en demi-basane verte, dos à quatre nerfs avec motifs or, en bon état (légère insolation du dos et léger frottements).
