L'objet de cette étude est d'ordre philosophique et social: nous recherchons les théories sur l'Islam émises et appliquées par Bonaparte durant l'expédition d'Egypte. La persistance de l'idée islamique chez l'empereur est des plus curieuses, mais la question sort du cadre de cet ouvrage, et nous ne pouvions que l'indiquer brièvement. Extrait de l'Avertissement.
