Etude des poésies puis des contes d'Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849), par Émile LAUVRIERE (1866-1954), auteur de plusieurs ouvrages sur l'écrivain, dont "Un génie morbide - La vie d'Edgar A. Poe", sa thèse de doctorat présentée en 1904 (Faculté des lettres de Paris); portrait d'Edgar Poe en frontispice d'après daguerréotype de 1848. Dans la collection dirigée par André George.

Paris, Vanier, 1889 ; in-8 de XII-167 pp., reliure de l'époque demi-maroquin brun à coins, deux filets dorés, dos lisse orné de motifs macabres dorés (têtes de mort, chauve-souris et serpents), tête dorée, couverture parcheminée.
Seconde édition de la traduction de Stéphane Mallarmé, parue un an après l'originale bruxelloise. Dans une lettre à Verlaine, le poète déclarait avoir appris l'anglais « simplement pour mieux lire Poe... » Elle est illustrée de 9 reproductions de dessins à l'encre de Chine d'Édouard Manet, dont un portrait de Poe en frontispice, 7 planches hors texte et une célèbre vignette de couverture représentant le corbeau du poème éponyme. Les illustrations d'Annabel Lee et celle de La Cité en la mer sont inédites. L'éditeur y a joint une vue gravée sur bois de la tombe d'Edgar Poe. Très bon exemplaire en reliure macabre. Charnières et coins frottés.
