Edition originale tirée à 3000 exemplaires, celui-ci sur papier de Rives à la forme (n° 1406), enrichi d'un grand DESSIN original aux crayons de couleurs de Cocteau courant sur le revers du premier feuillet blanc et la page de faux-titre (deux faunes - ou béliers ? - de face, un autre de profil), d'un bel ENVOI autographe signé de l'auteur à son ami Jean-Marie Magnan, ainsi que de la sentence "on ne peut pas être et avoir l'air", également signée "Jean". Jean-Marie [Magnan] (1929-2020), écrivain arlésien, grand amateur de tauromachie, s'était lié d'amitié avec Jean Cocteau, Lucien Clergue et Pablo Picasso en 1956. Il a consacré de nombreux ouvrages à Cocteau, tandis que ce dernier a illustré de lithographies son ouvrage de 1965, "Taureaux". Bon exemplaire (couverture légèrement brunie en marges, quelques très rares rousseurs) d'excellente provenance, doublement signé et agrémenté d'un dessin un peu plus travaillé qu'à l'ordinaire. Bon

Nel suo lungo e complesso viaggio artistico, Giorgio de Chirico ha rappresentato, in modo solo apparentemente paradossale, sia il pittore della scomparsa del volto umano nei volumi ovali e lisci dei manichini, che il pittore dell'autoritratto, ripetuto innumerevoli volte in una serie di variazioni sul tema. I suoi autoritratti legati al mascheramento, al doppio, all'epigrafica comunicazione di messaggi, hanno, infatti, attraversato il secolo scorso scandendone il gusto e le visioni, fino al dialogo con la grande pittura del passato. Cos nell'opera di de Chirico il volto scomparir e riapparir , sar parafrasato dai suoi doppi marmorei e dai suoi simulacri da atelier di sartoria e da palestra, ritrover il passaggio del tempo sul volto dell'artista e si trasformer nella ripresa al di l del tempo di volti gi dipinti, da secoli dissolti nella polvere e condensati nella memoria fluida e immobile della pittura. Tutto questo ha tuttavia una costante comune: quell'aspetto spettrale delle persone e delle cose che, secondo de Chirico, solo l'artista metafisico col dono della profezia capace di cogliere.
