Septembre 1938. Après avoir bafoué le traité de Versailles et envahi l'Autriche, Hitler a les yeux rivés sur les Sudètes. Le lieutenant-colonel Oster, membre des renseignements militaires allemands, qui a vu le dictateur à l'œuvre depuis 1933, est convaincu qu'il faut agir au plus vite afin d'éviter l'annexion des Sudètes et sa conséquence directe la guerre mondiale. Pour mener à bien son entreprise, Hans Oster parvient à réunir un réseau de choc : généraux de la Wehrmacht, membres de la police berlinoise, autorités civiles et religieuses ainsi qu'un groupe de patriotes prêts à tout. Tout est en place. Le coup d'Etat aura lieu dès que Hitler donnera l'ordre d'envahir la Tchécoslovaquie.
