En 1907, le roi Edouard VII d'Angleterre et son epouse, la reine Alexandra, passerent une commande au joailler imperial de Russie, Carl Faberge, pour creer une menagerie en miniature rassemblant tous les animaux de leur domaine de Sandringham a Norfolk. Il en resulta le plus grand ensemble de sculptures animalieres de Faberge a ce jour. Cet ouvrage est le premier a developper l'histoire complete de cette commande exceptionnelle. De splendides photos des sculptures sont accompagnees de documents inedits provenant des archives royales d'Angleterre et de Russie. Le livre donne un apercu de la relation entre le mecenat royal britanique et l'artiste Faberge, presente les ateliers et les sculpteurs et termine avec un glossaire des termes specialises.
